Bulgaria’s Summer Quran Courses Help Nurture Islamic Education Among Children

Thousands of Muslim children across Bulgaria are taking part in annual summer Quran courses organised by the Bulgarian Muslim Religious Authority. Held during the summer holidays, the programmes aim to encourage religious education while helping younger generations strengthen their connection with their Islamic faith and cultural heritage.

According to the platform “Muslims Around the World,” the courses are among the key educational and religious initiatives overseen by the Bulgarian Mufti’s Office. Children are taught Quran recitation and memorisation, along with fundamental Islamic beliefs, ethics and values.

The programmes are conducted at dozens of mosques and religious centres across Bulgarian cities and towns, catering to children from different age groups. Qualified teachers and educators supervise the sessions, creating an environment where students can learn religious teachings while engaging with others from their communities.

Organisers emphasise that the initiative extends beyond Quranic learning. The courses also seek to encourage good character, moral values and a stronger sense of religious and cultural identity among children. For Bulgaria’s Muslim community, the summer programmes provide an opportunity for younger generations to remain connected to their traditions while growing up in a diverse European society.
