A California-based technology company CEO has been arrested on allegations of supplying U.S.-made equipment to Iran’s nuclear and military sectors.

Jamshid Ghomi, 63, a dual U.S.-Iranian citizen residing in Newport Coast, California, has been charged with conspiracy to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), according to an announcement by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday.

Federal prosecutors allege that Ghomi acquired and exported advanced U.S.-origin networking, security, and encryption technologies to customers in Iran, including organizations linked to the Iranian government’s nuclear and military programs.

According to the DOJ, Ghomi knowingly provided U.S. technology to sanctioned entities, including the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, which plays a key role in the country's nuclear activities. Assistant Attorney General for National Security John A. Eisenberg stated that Ghomi allegedly profited from these transactions while circumventing U.S. sanctions.

Investigators further claim that Ghomi transferred more than $15 million from Iran into U.S. bank accounts under his control, including a separate escrow account. The funds were allegedly misrepresented to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as foreign inheritance payments.
