Mohamed Sabry Soliman, the man accused of carrying out a deadly firebomb attack during a demonstration supporting Israeli hostages in Gaza, is expected to plead guilty this week to murder and multiple additional charges, according to recently filed court documents.
The June 1 attack took place in downtown Boulder, where demonstrators had gathered at a pedestrian mall in support of Israeli hostages held in Gaza. Prosecutors allege that Soliman threw two Molotov cocktails into the crowd, causing chaos and severe injuries among participants.
An 82-year-old woman who was critically injured in the attack later succumbed to her injuries, while at least twelve others sustained injuries of varying severity.
Court filings submitted Sunday in a related federal case indicate that Soliman could face a sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole if convicted. The documents also reveal a major shift in the case, as Soliman had previously entered a not guilty plea to the charges against him.
Federal authorities identified Soliman as an Egyptian national who was allegedly living in the United States illegally at the time of the attack. The incident has drawn national attention due to its violent nature and the political tensions surrounding the Israel-Gaza conflict.
The case is expected to continue unfolding in federal court as prosecutors pursue terrorism-related and homicide charges tied to the deadly assault.
