Germany: Muslim Couple Convicted of Enslaving Yazidi Girls and Forcing Them to Convert to Islam

A German court has sentenced an Iraqi ISIS couple for enslaving and subjecting two young Yazidi girls to years of rape, torture, and abuse.

Twana HS and his wife Asia RA were arrested by German police in April 2024. They were convicted of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes.

Twana HS received a life sentence, while Asia RA was sentenced to nine-and-a-half years in prison. According to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office and the Higher Regional Court of Munich, the couple carried out their crimes in ISIS-controlled areas of Iraq and Syria between 2015 and 2017.

The pair first took a five-year-old Yazidi girl as a slave, later abducting a 12-year-old girl as well. They treated the children as property, forcing them to perform hard domestic labor while indoctrinating them with ISIS ideology. The girls were forbidden from practicing their Yazidi faith and were compelled to follow Islam.

Prosecutors stated that Twana HS repeatedly raped both girls, with his wife fully complicit in the systematic abuse.
