A 45-year-old man identified as Fatih Khan G., described as being of Turkish origin, allegedly shot and killed six employees at a youth welfare facility in Stade on Monday. New information reported by the Nius news outlet states that the getaway vehicle was driven by 65-year-old Sylvia S. from Bremen, who reportedly works as a migration consultant for a nationwide advocacy organization involved in Germany's migration policy sector.
The suspect fled the scene in a Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupé with nearly 400 horsepower. According to reports, the vehicle had been registered in Sylvia S.'s name on May 26, 2026, approximately five weeks before the fatal shooting.
Nius reports that Sylvia S.'s organization provides guidance on matters including family reunification, residency rights, and naturalization, while presenting itself as an advocate for migrant families and an organization committed to combating racism.
The report further notes that organizations involved in migrant assistance and anti-racism initiatives receive substantial public funding in Germany. According to Nius, Sylvia S.'s organization received nearly €900,000 in taxpayer funding for 2025 and 2026 through the federal NGO program "Demokratie leben!" ("Democracy Live!").
Investigators believe the attack stemmed from a custody dispute involving Fatih Khan G.'s three-month-old child. Sylvia S. has reportedly told authorities that she is the child's godmother and has been closely connected to the family.
On the day of the shooting, the father was scheduled to attend a protective custody hearing in Stade, with Sylvia S. driving him to the appointment. Authorities allege that he unexpectedly produced a firearm he had brought with him and opened fire on employees at the facility. Five victims died at the scene, while a sixth later succumbed to injuries in hospital. Investigators have described the incident as an "extremely cold-blooded act of violence."
Following the shooting, the suspect and Sylvia S. fled together in the Mercedes. Their escape came to an end after a tire on the vehicle burst on the B73 highway several kilometers from the crime scene, enabling emergency responders to intercept the car and arrest both occupants.
