A disturbing case has emerged from Hyderabad, where a woman has accused her husband and his family of subjecting her to deception, abuse, and forced religious conversion. The woman, in a statement to ANI, detailed a series of events that began with what she described as a fraudulent identity and escalated into severe physical and emotional trauma.
According to her account, she first met the man, identified as Nawaz, in May 2021 when he approached her regarding a rental property. Within days of their meeting, he allegedly claimed that he had converted to Hinduism and had adopted the name Navadurga. Trusting his claims and with apparent agreement from his family members present at the time, she continued interacting with him, unaware of what she later described as a calculated deception.
The woman alleged that on May 24, Nawaz invited her to a resort under the pretext of introducing her to his family. However, no family members arrived. While there, she claims she was given food and drinks that had been laced with intoxicating substances, after which she lost consciousness. She alleges that she was sexually assaulted during this period.
Upon regaining consciousness the following day, she reported feeling physically unwell and suspicious about the previous night’s events. When confronted, Nawaz allegedly admitted to the assault and showed her photographs taken while she was unconscious. She claims these images were then used to blackmail her into marrying him, with threats of public exposure if she refused.
The woman further alleged that the threats escalated over time, including intimidation, financial extortion, and threats directed at her family members. She also claimed that she faced physical violence not only from Nawaz but also from his associates.
She stated that she was eventually forced into marriage on July 28 and subsequently compelled to convert to Islam, being given a new name and instructed to follow religious practices against her will. She also alleged that she was coerced into dietary practices she did not consent to and was subjected to further abuse when she resisted.
In her testimony, the woman described continued harassment after marriage, including restrictions on communication, physical violence, and denial of her personal freedoms. She also alleged that when she became pregnant, she was administered medication by her in-laws that led to the termination of her pregnancy without her consent.
The allegations paint a deeply troubling picture of sustained abuse, coercion, and violation of personal autonomy. Authorities are expected to investigate the matter based on the woman’s complaint, and further developments are awaited.
