Terrorists targeted non-Muslims during the Pahalgam attack, according to sources and witnesses.
On Tuesday afternoon, a group of terrorists launched an assault in the Baisaran area of Pahalgam, located in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. The area was crowded with tourists enjoying pony rides and visiting local eateries when the attack occurred. At least 27 people were killed in the incident.
After initially firing indiscriminately, the terrorists focused on identifying and killing non-Muslims.
A video from the scene captured a woman describing how her husband was shot after the terrorists determined he was not Muslim. "We were eating bhelpuri when they shot my husband. One of the men came up, said he might not be a Muslim, and then they shot him," she explained in Hindi.
According to sources speaking to CNN-News18, the terrorists checked for circumcision and asked people to recite the 'kalma'—an Islamic declaration of faith—to identify non-Muslims. Those unable to recite it were considered non-Muslims and were killed.
