Israeli Forces Arrest Suspect After Deadly West Bank Spring Shooting

An Israeli man was killed while bathing with friends at a natural spring in the occupied West Bank on Sunday, in an attack that occurred just hours before the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur.

According to the Israeli military, the suspected attacker, identified as Qadri Samarah, 37, allegedly opened fire from a passing red Mitsubishi SUV before fleeing the scene. Israeli forces launched a manhunt and later arrested him during a raid on a hospital in Ramallah, where he had reportedly sought treatment after being wounded by Israeli gunfire while attempting to escape on foot.

“Army commandos apprehended the terrorist after he had fled to a hospital near the site of the attack,” the Israeli military said in an official statement. Authorities also seized the vehicle believed to have been used in the shooting.

Israeli media identified the victim as Netanel Shukrun, a father of six in his thirties. He had visited the spring with his eldest son for a ritual immersion ahead of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. Although he was evacuated for medical treatment, he later died from his injuries.

Yossi Dagan, head of the Samaria Regional Council, described Shukrun as “a man of kindness, humble and a lover of people,” saying he was killed shortly after completing the religious ritual with his son.

In a separate incident on the same day, Israeli forces said they shot and killed a Palestinian man near Jenin in the northern West Bank after he allegedly attempted a vehicular attack close to an Israeli settlement. The military stated that no Israeli personnel were injured in that incident.
