Authorities in the Bavarian city of Nuremberg have launched an investigation into alleged organized exploitation of underage girls by drug gangs, who are accused of luring vulnerable minors with gifts, addicting them to hard drugs, and coercing them into sexual acts in exchange for further supplies.

According to a press release from the Bavarian State Police, the suspected activity has centered around Nelson Mandela Platz near the city’s main railway station, as well as the nearby districts of Südstadt and Celtispark — areas long known to law enforcement for drug-related crime.

Investigators report growing evidence that members of the local drug scene have been deliberately targeting young girls from unstable family and living situations. The men identified so far are predominantly of Syrian, Pakistani, and North African origin.

Police say the grooming process typically began with offers of affection and small gifts such as clothing or cosmetics. The girls, some as young as 13, were then allegedly supplied with hard drugs including crystal meth. Once dependent, they were reportedly forced to provide sexual services or other “favors” to receive further supplies, with some pushed into prostitution.

Ten individuals have been identified in connection with the case, according to local media outlet Nürnberger Nachrichten. Four are under investigation for offenses including drug trafficking, supplying drugs to minors, and sexual crimes.

A 23-year-old Syrian national is currently in custody. Arrest warrants have been issued for two suspects still at large: a 22-year-old Syrian and a 25-year-old stateless person. An 18-year-old Pakistani national is also under investigation.

Youth welfare officials have expressed serious concern over the scale of the problem, warning that the investigation could reveal a larger grooming gang operation across the city. Frank Schmidt, deputy head of Nuremberg’s youth welfare office, noted that issues around major train stations are “not unique to Nuremberg,” but highlighted that the open nature of suspected drug-related prostitution involving young girls represents a new and alarming development.
