Suspected Boko Haram insurgents launched coordinated attacks on two military positions in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, in the early hours of the morning, leaving three civilians dead.
According to eyewitnesses, the first assault targeted a military base in Kofa at approximately 2:14 a.m., followed by another attack on a military position in Muna around 2:30 a.m. Residents said the insurgents arrived on motorcycles and opened indiscriminate fire as they advanced toward the military installations.
Sources from both locations stated that security forces successfully repelled the attacks. However, three civilians lost their lives after being struck by stray bullets during the exchange of gunfire.
A Kofa resident, Deborah Usman, recounted that panic spread through the neighborhood as residents fled to safety while troops engaged the attackers. During the chaos, she said, a newlywed woman, who had been married for just three weeks, was fatally struck in the head by a stray bullet.
In Muna, residents said the insurgents attacked troops stationed at the Customs office in what appeared to be an attempt to breach the city's defenses. A local resident, Mannanaye Muhammad, confirmed that two people were killed during the attack.
