A migrant man convicted of multiple sexual offences has been found guilty of rape for a third time, following a trial that exposed a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior.
Mohammed Altaher, a 41-year-old Iraqi national, had previously been featured in an episode of 24 Hours in Police Custody titled “The Predator,” which detailed earlier allegations against him. During the investigation highlighted in the program, Altaher claimed he had been mistreated by authorities, alleging that detectives subjected him to degrading treatment due to his sexual orientation.
However, after the broadcast aired, a third individual came forward, reporting that they had also been assaulted by Altaher in 2019. The case proceeded to trial, and on April 8, at Aylesbury Crown Court, he was convicted of raping this third victim.
Court proceedings revealed that Altaher continued his assaults even after consent had been explicitly withdrawn, with prosecutors describing his actions as aggressive and persistent. Evidence presented also revisited earlier cases, illustrating a pattern of coercion and violence.
In one instance, a victim was reportedly given an illegal stimulant before being subjected to repeated sexual abuse. The court heard that the individual suffered significant physical and psychological harm, later seeking help at a sexual assault referral centre. In a victim impact statement, he described struggling to initially recognize himself as a victim, explaining how the trauma left him disengaged from work and emotionally numb.
Another victim recounted being immediately overpowered upon arriving at Altaher’s residence, where the assault occurred shortly thereafter.
The conviction adds to Altaher’s record of serious offences, reinforcing concerns raised during earlier investigations about his conduct and the risk he posed to others.
