A Kurdish woman from Bukan, Chiman Hosseinzadeh, and her daughter, Sara Yousefi, were shot dead on 8 May by a local Taliban official who had allegedly been seeking to marry the 15-year-old girl.

A source familiar with the incident said that Hosseinzadeh had married an Afghan man around two decades ago and had been living in the village of Ghaldouri in Kohistanat district of Sar-e Pol province. Locally known as Bibi Chaman Gol, she worked as a midwife in the community.

According to the source, Mofti Mohammadollah, the head of the Taliban’s Hajj and Endowments Department in Kohistanat district, had expressed his intention to marry Sara Yousefi.

On 8 May, the official reportedly went to the family’s home and attempted to take Sara by force. When her mother intervened and resisted, he allegedly opened fire, killing both Hosseinzadeh and her daughter.

Reports indicate that Taliban authorities later detained the suspect following the killings.
