The ex-wife of the man behind the sinister plot to assassinate Donald Trump is an accomplished American lawyer who converted to Islam for him, DailyMail.com can reveal.
Gabriele Burner, 49, was married to Farhad Shakeri, 51, who is believed to have orchestrated the failed assassination attempt, which involved three hitmen hired by the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) to target Trump.
The couple, who had five children together, were living in New York when Shakeri was convicted of robbery and kidnapping in 1994 and sentenced to 21 years in prison.
Shakeri, originally from Virginia, was later deported to Afghanistan after accepting a plea deal from authorities.
Burner, a white New Yorker, supported her husband for years, even relocating to Afghanistan and later Dubai following his deportation.
Exclusive photos obtained by DailyMail.com show the couple together after his release from US custody.
Burner spent nine years working in the Special Litigation Unit of New York City’s Law Department before her husband's deportation. She then worked as a legal advisor in Kabul for three years.
In 2011, Shakeri and his family moved to Dubai, where Burner again worked as a legal consultant, but the couple eventually separated in 2015 after the birth of their youngest son.
She returned to New York with her children and established her own legal firm in Port Jefferson, Long Island.
In 2022, Burner rebranded her firm from Law Office of Gabriele Shakeri to Gabriele Burner, after practicing for eight years under her married name.
Burner declined to comment when approached by DailyMail.com.
Sources claim her family was appalled by how Shakeri treated her after she converted to Islam to be with him.
“Gaby decided to return to America because of his behavior,” a source said. “She truly gave her life to him.”
The source added that she left him in Dubai and returned to New York due to his worsening behavior, with Shakeri’s younger brother losing respect for him after witnessing how he treated Burner.
“He couldn’t respect him anymore after seeing the woman, a white woman who had converted to Islam and learned the language,” the source said.
This news follows DailyMail.com's revelation that Shakeri was raised in Manassas, Virginia, after his parents moved the family from Afghanistan in search of a better life.
