Australian police mounted a high-intensity security operation in a Sydney suburb on Thursday, deploying heavily armed tactical officers as part of heightened vigilance following the terror attack on a Jewish holiday gathering at Bondi Beach earlier this week. The dramatic action unfolded when police intercepted two vehicles, with officers in full tactical gear reportedly ramming one of the cars before detaining several men for questioning.

In a statement, the New South Wales Police Force said the operation was triggered after authorities received intelligence suggesting that a violent act “was possibly being planned.” Tactical Operations officers were dispatched swiftly, reflecting the seriousness with which the information was treated amid an already tense security environment in the aftermath of Sunday’s attack.

The operation took place in Liverpool, a suburb in Sydney’s southwest located roughly a 30-minute drive from Bondi Beach. However, police were careful to clarify that, at this stage, they had “not identified any connection to the current police investigation of the Bondi terror attack,” indicating that the action was precautionary rather than a confirmed extension of the earlier case.

According to reports by Australian media outlets NewsWire and The Australian, the men intercepted were believed to have been traveling from Melbourne in the state of Victoria—nearly 550 miles from Sydney—and were allegedly en route toward Bondi at the time they were stopped. These reports have further fueled public attention, given the geographic distance involved and the sensitivity of the location.

While no arrests were announced following the operation, images from the scene showed several men seated on the ground as officers secured the area and conducted checks. Police later confirmed that seven men were “assisting police with their inquiries,” underscoring that the investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to assess any potential threat.
