Authorities in Georgia announced that an Atlanta police officer has been terminated and criminally charged after allegedly raping a masseuse during a massage session in June.

The officer, identified as Muhammad Muhammad, was taken into custody on August 21 at Atlanta Police Department (APD) headquarters. He now faces serious charges of rape and false imprisonment, according to a statement from the department. His dismissal came immediately after a disciplinary hearing convened by APD leadership.

The allegations stem from an incident reported to have taken place on June 6, 2024, inside a private residence in southwest Atlanta. Investigators say the victim, a professional masseuse, had agreed to provide massage services to the officer in exchange for payment. However, once the session began, the situation escalated alarmingly.

According to police reports, the woman told investigators that Muhammad became aggressive and initiated physical contact that was sexual in nature. When she made it clear that her services did not include sexual acts and asked him to stop, he allegedly ignored her objections. Authorities further stated that the officer then sexually assaulted her, threatened her with a firearm, and reclaimed the payment he had initially given before leaving the residence.

The victim reported the assault to police two days later, triggering an internal investigation within the department. Muhammad, who had served with the Atlanta Police Department since November 2020, was immediately placed on administrative leave while detectives worked to establish probable cause. Once sufficient evidence was gathered, warrants for his arrest were issued.

APD Chief Darin Schierbaum condemned the incident in strong terms, emphasizing that accountability applies to every member of law enforcement.

“We have been clear: no one is above the law, including members of our own Department,” Chief Schierbaum said. “These allegations are deeply troubling and run counter to the values and expectations of our agency.”

The case underscores broader concerns about abuse of authority and public trust within policing institutions. While the department has moved quickly to remove Muhammad from its ranks and initiate criminal proceedings, the incident raises pressing questions about vetting, oversight, and safeguarding vulnerable individuals from misconduct by those sworn to protect them.

The investigation remains ongoing, and Muhammad will face prosecution in the coming months. For now, his arrest serves as a stark reminder that the justice system must hold law enforcement officers to the same—if not higher—standards as the citizens they serve.
