In a heartbreaking case heard at Nottingham Crown Court, the mothers of two nine-year-old boys from Nottingham have poignantly detailed the profound and lasting emotional trauma inflicted upon their children following sexual assaults in a local park.

During the sentencing hearing, victim impact statements were read aloud, revealing the deep psychological scars left on the young victims. One mother described how her son, previously a vibrant, bubbly, and sociable child full of energy and enthusiasm for outdoor activities, has been transformed by the ordeal. He now frequently invents excuses to avoid leaving the house, reflecting a marked withdrawal from the world and a loss of his former joyful confidence.

The second mother shared the terrifying fear that now grips her son, explaining that the assault at Melbourne Park in Aspley has left him in a constant state of anxiety. He lives in dread, petrified that his attacker might return to pursue him again or even abduct him, underscoring the pervasive sense of insecurity that has shattered his sense of safety.

The perpetrator, 27-year-old Afghan national Dawajan Ahmadzai, of no fixed address, was unanimously convicted by a jury after a week-long trial. Deliberations lasted just over two hours, resulting in guilty verdicts on two counts of sexual assault on a child and one count of causing a child to engage in watching a sexual act. This final charge stemmed from Ahmadzai forcing one of the boys to view a brief pornographic video clip featuring adults engaging in sexual activity on his mobile phone.

Testimony during the trial painted a disturbing picture of the events on the afternoon of June 15, 2025. One of the victims recounted how Ahmadzai approached him while he was playing with friends, grabbed him from behind, and proceeded to massage his body in a manner that made him deeply uncomfortable. The boy described resisting by elbowing the defendant and fleeing to call the police. The second child was subjected to an unwanted hug and was then shown the explicit "dirty video."

In passing the sentence, the judge imposed a three-year prison term on Ahmadzai. Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders' register for life, subjected to a lifetime sexual harm prevention order to restrict future contact with children or access to certain activities, and issued a 10-year restraining order prohibiting any approach to the victims.
