The incident has caused significant disruptions to travel in the region, leading several buses and trucks to reroute towards Konni for safety.

The Lakurawas continue to take advantage of the difficult terrain along the Niger-Nigeria border.

Suspected militants from Jama’a Nusrat ul-Islam wa al-Muslimin (JNIM) have killed five people in a raid on Tafouka, a town in Niger's Tahoua region.

The Lakurawa terror group, notorious for its jihadist operations, has infiltrated northern Sokoto and Kebbi states from Niger Republic and Mali, broadening its reach.

Reports from Zagazola Makama confirm that the attack led to the deaths of four soldiers and one civilian, with two others suffering fatal injuries in the vicious assault.

Intelligence sources stated that the attackers gathered in the area, split into smaller units on motorcycles, and launched the assault, catching their victims by surprise.

Makama further reported that a civilian project worker was intercepted and executed on the spot, with their motorcycle set alight by the militants.

In response, Niger's Defense and Security Forces (FDS) deployed a reconnaissance team to the area, but their efforts were obstructed.

“Unfortunately, the vehicle fell into an ambush by the attackers, resulting in the deaths of four soldiers and the critical injury of two others. The vehicle was destroyed,” the report stated.
