A convicted terrorist has been sentenced to eight years in prison after recording a video in which he pledged allegiance to the Islamic State.
In 2023, a supreme court jury found 22-year-old Aran Sherani guilty of preparing for a terrorist act related to the 2021 video.
The footage shows Sherani swearing loyalty to Islamic State, boasting about evading the police, and brandishing a knife toward the camera.
He later admitted to being a member of a terrorist organisation and confessed to being caught on video setting two bushfires in northern Melbourne in February 2021.
In these recordings, he warned that civilians would "feel the fire of Allah."
