Austrian authorities have arrested a 14-year-old suspected of planning an attack at a Vienna railway station and found evidence suggesting his support for the Islamic State (ISIS), officials said Wednesday.
According to the Interior Ministry, the boy, an Austrian citizen of Turkish descent, was taken into custody in the capital on February 10, as reported by the Austria Press Agency.
The arrest followed intelligence tips indicating that an ISIS supporter had shared extremist content, including videos and stories, on multiple TikTok profiles.
At the time of his arrest, the suspect was carrying a knife. A subsequent search of his home uncovered Islamic extremist literature, sketches depicting knife and machete attacks at a station and against police officers, as well as handwritten instructions for making explosive materials intended as a bomb detonator.
APA reported that the planned target was the Westbahnhof, a major railway station in Vienna.
