Another Hindu youth was brutally shot dead in public on Monday evening in Bangladesh’s Jashore district, sending shockwaves of fear and panic through the local community. The incident took place at approximately 5:45 pm at Kopalia Bazar, located in Ward No. 17 of Manirampur Upazila, a busy marketplace that was crowded at the time of the attack.

This killing marks the fifth fatal assault targeting members of the Hindu community in separate violent incidents over the past three weeks. The repeated nature of these attacks has intensified concerns over the deteriorating law-and-order situation in the country, particularly at a time when Bangladesh continues to witness widespread unrest, protests, and political instability.

The victim has been identified as Rana Pratap, aged 45, the son of Tushar Kanti Bairagi and a resident of Arua village under Keshabpur Upazila. According to eyewitness accounts and preliminary police information, a group of unidentified assailants suddenly opened fire on Pratap while he was present in the market. He was struck by multiple bullets and collapsed on the spot, succumbing to his injuries before any medical assistance could be provided.

In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, panic and chaos spread rapidly across the area, with shopkeepers pulling down shutters and residents fleeing the scene. Personnel from Manirampur Police Station rushed to the location soon after the incident and managed to bring the situation under control.

Confirming the killing, Officer-in-Charge Rajiullah Khan stated that necessary arrangements were being made to recover the body and conduct a post-mortem examination. He further added that a formal investigation has been launched and efforts are underway to identify, track down, and arrest those responsible for the attack. The incident has once again highlighted growing insecurity among minority communities and raised urgent questions about public safety and accountability.
