A Chechen immigrant was arrested for allegedly plotting an attack on the Israeli embassy in Berlin. German police announced the arrest of Ahmed, an 18-year-old Chechen immigrant described as having an "Islamic background," who admitted to planning the attack on the embassy in the German capital.
According to the German news agency DPA, the suspect was taken into custody at Berlin-Brandenburg airport on Thursday night. The following day, a judge ordered his continued detention, citing the potential threat he posed. The German newspaper Bild reported that the arrest followed intelligence received from a foreign agency. The suspect was allegedly attempting to flee Berlin for Istanbul, Turkey, when he was apprehended.
Authorities stated that the suspect was not previously known to local law enforcement, and they suspect he did not act alone. German police are now investigating to determine whether he had any accomplices.
