The First Information Report (FIR) was filed at Saddar Police Station, and the incident has garnered significant attention from the local community and beyond.
According to the FIR, the alleged incident occurred on December 21, 2024, around 1:00 PM. The complainant, Atta Ul-Mustafa, an imam at a local mosque, reported that while at Hamam Chowk, he was approached by Muhammad Imran and Rabnawaz, who claimed that Shazia Younis had burned some books outside her house. Among the burned items, they alleged, were Islamic texts containing Quranic verses.
The FIR states that Shazia Younis admitted to the act, which the complainant interpreted as a deliberate attempt to desecrate Quranic verses, thereby offending the religious sentiments of the Muslim community. He demanded her immediate arrest and punishment under the blasphemy laws.
In response, the police swiftly registered the case under Section 295-B of the Pakistan Penal Code, which addresses the desecration of the Quran. Investigations are underway, and additional charges may be considered based on the inquiry's findings.
