Nearly 20 people have reportedly been killed in a brutal attack on the Tyungu Jam and Mbaav communities, located in the Yaav and Mbadura Council Wards of Kwande Local Government Area in Benue State. The assault is believed to have been carried out by suspected armed herdsmen.
According to a local source, the attackers invaded the communities early on Thursday morning and continued their violent rampage late into the night. Several residents were killed during the attack, while many others are still missing.
The violence forced many residents to abandon their homes and flee for safety as efforts to locate survivors and missing persons continued. Community members have been searching nearby bushes and damaged houses in hopes of finding those who may still be unaccounted for.
Describing the situation as tragic, the source said the attackers targeted innocent civilians, including women and children, without provocation. He noted that the death toll had already reached close to 20 but warned that the number could increase as search operations continue.
He further expressed deep frustration and grief, stating that communities feel abandoned and unprotected as such attacks continue. According to him, the ongoing killings of women and children in their homes have left residents feeling helpless and questioning whether adequate protection from authorities exists.
