Christians in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are once again reeling from a brutal act of violence, with 70 believers tragically losing their lives. Please join us in praying for our brothers and sisters as they endure rising persecution.

Seventy Christians were found beheaded inside a church in the northeast of DRC, the latest in a series of devastating attacks on believers in the region.

Sources on the ground report that around 4am on Thursday, 13 February, suspected militants from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a group linked to the Islamic State (IS), arrived in Mayba, a village in Lubero territory. They ordered residents to “get out, get out and don’t make any noise.” Twenty Christian men and women were taken from their homes.

Shocked by the violence, locals in Mayba came together in an attempt to rescue those captured. However, the ADF militants surrounded the village and abducted another 50 believers.

The 70 captives were brought to a Protestant church in Kasanga, where they were brutally killed.

Muhindo Musunzi, director of Kombo Primary School, which is part of the CECA20 church, shared that before the attack, churches, schools, and health centers had been forced to close due to the worsening security situation. “We had to relocate all activities to Vunying,” he said.

Field reports also indicate that as of Tuesday, 18 February, some families had been unable to bury their loved ones due to ongoing insecurity. Many Christians have fled the area in search of safety.
