A devastating attack struck the Ariko community in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Easter Sunday, as terrorists launched coordinated assaults on two Christian places of worship, leaving at least seven people dead and several others abducted.

The violence unfolded in the early hours of the morning, targeting worshippers gathered at the First ECWA Church and St. Augustine Catholic Church. The congregants had assembled to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ when the attackers stormed the premises, turning a sacred occasion into a scene of chaos and bloodshed.

According to Bawa, initial reports confirm the deaths of at least seven individuals, although the exact number remains uncertain. “I am currently on my way to the community to verify the casualty figures. While some sources report seven fatalities, others suggest eight. I will provide a confirmed update shortly,” he stated.

Residents expressed deep anguish over the incident, highlighting the prolonged nature of the attack and the absence of immediate security intervention. Bawa explained that the delayed response was largely due to poor telecommunications infrastructure in the rural area, which left residents unable to alert authorities as the violence unfolded.

The incident has once again raised serious concerns about security challenges in remote regions and the vulnerability of communities during significant religious observances.
