Former British Prime Minister Liz Truss has urged the UK and the European Union to abandon what she called failed leftist-globalist policies and instead adopt economic strategies inspired by former U.S. President Donald Trump.
In an interview with Fox Business, Truss warned of impending economic "doom" if governments on both sides of the Atlantic continue to pursue high taxes, excessive regulations, net-zero climate policies, and weak stances toward Communist China.
“We’re dealing with the highest energy prices in the developed world, the highest taxes in 70 years, and yet, despite rising taxes, revenue is falling, economies are stagnating, and a financial crisis seems inevitable unless Europe changes course,” she cautioned.
Truss praised Trump’s economic approach, highlighting his focus on deregulation, fracking—which lowered energy costs—and a firm stance against China. “Trump demonstrated the path forward. Europe and the UK must follow suit or risk decline,” she said.
Truss expressed confidence that a second Trump presidency would “turbocharge” the American economy, potentially forcing European leaders to reassess their strategies and adopt more pragmatic economic policies similar to Trump’s.
Reflecting on Europe’s political climate, Truss pointed to the 2016 Brexit referendum as evidence of the public’s appetite for change. However, she claimed this will has been stifled by “a powerful political elite and bureaucratic class.”
The former Prime Minister also suggested that her own brief tenure in office was cut short by interference from what she described as the British "deep state."
