Three young men, reportedly radicalized, have been charged with an alleged terrorist conspiracy by France's intelligence agency, the General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI).

Believed to be inspired by jihadist ideology, the suspects are accused of planning a violent act in the central-eastern city of Poitiers, potentially involving "homemade bombs."

According to French media outlet Le Parisien, one of the suspects is the son of an imam from the Saint-Brieuc mosque and a former Muslim chaplain at a local prison.

Investigations suggest that the three men intended to avenge the Arab-Berber forces defeated by Charles Martel at the Battle of Poitiers in 732. The authorities suspect that they aimed to instigate chaos and civil unrest, with hopes of establishing an Imamat, a Muslim theocratic state governed by Islam.

A preliminary investigation was launched on November 20.

The suspects, accused of being radicalized by jihadist ideologies, were arrested in the cities of Nîmes in the southwest and Nantes in the northwest.
