A suspected supporter of the Islamic State, who allegedly planned an armed attack on the Israeli embassy in Berlin, has been arrested, according to Germany's Public Prosecutor General on Sunday.

The suspect, a Libyan national referred to as “Omar A” in official communications and media, is accused of endorsing ISIS's terrorist ideology. To prepare for the attack, he reportedly exchanged information with an ISIS member via an online Messenger chat.

The arrest took place on Saturday in Bernau, a suburb of Berlin, as reported by Euronews.

The prosecutor general indicated that he will appear before the investigating judge of the Federal Court of Justice on Monday, where the judge will reveal the arrest warrant and decide on his pre-trial detention.

German tabloid Bild reported that the suspect allegedly intended to first seek refuge in his uncle’s apartment in the area before attempting to flee the country after the attack.

The uncle is not being treated as a suspect but rather as a witness, and it remains unclear whether he was aware of his nephew’s plans, according to Bild.
