A senior UN official on Tuesday stated that Israel is responsible for safeguarding aid convoys in Gaza, referring to what she called an "organized crime" incident involving stolen humanitarian supplies.

Speaking on WBUR’s “Here and Now,” UNRWA Communications Director Juliette Touma emphasized the difference between prior looting by “desperate” and “hungry” civilians and this recent “organized” theft.

Touma asserted that as the occupying power, Israeli authorities are obligated to “ensure the security of these convoys not only upon entry into Gaza but also until they are safely delivered to U.N. warehouses.”
