At least 31 people were killed and 101 injured following a series of airstrikes launched by the United States on Yemen on Saturday, according to the Houthi health ministry. A spokesperson for the group told NBC News that the Houthis would respond with “more escalation.”

President Donald Trump confirmed that he ordered the airstrikes targeting Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, vowing to use “overwhelming lethal force” until the rebels halted attacks on shipping in a crucial maritime corridor.

Nasr el-Din Amer, a Houthi spokesperson, informed NBC News on Sunday that most of the victims of the airstrikes were women and children, a claim that NBC News has not independently verified.

Amer stated that the Houthis would persist in their actions “until the blockade on Gaza is lifted,” and warned that “our response will not be delayed.”

Trump also issued a warning to Iran, urging it to stop backing the Houthi rebels and promising to hold the country “fully accountable” for the actions of its proxy group, which receives financial, training, and equipment support from Tehran.
