Authorities in Pakistan have reportedly refused to recover a 15-year-old Christian girl who was abducted at gunpoint, forcibly converted to Islam, and married to her kidnapper, according to a distraught father.

Afzal Javed Masih, a resident of Chak No. 648-GB village in Jaranwala, located in Punjab Province’s Faisalabad Division, said his daughter, Sidra Bibi, was taken from their home during the early morning hours of March 27. He alleges that a Muslim man named Ali Murtaza, along with two accomplices, scaled the wall of the family home around 3 a.m. and abducted Sidra at gunpoint.

Masih, who works collecting scrap in Sialkot District to support his family back in the village, told Christian Daily International-Morning Star News that relatives who witnessed the abduction immediately informed him.

“I returned to the village without delay and filed a First Information Report [FIR] on the same day, hoping for my daughter’s safe recovery,” he said.

Police did register the case, but Masih claims they inaccurately recorded Sidra’s age as 17 years old—when her official birth certificate states she is just 15 years and seven months old.

“I am illiterate and only learned of this mistake later, when a human rights activist pointed it out,” Masih explained.

According to Masih, authorities initially detained relatives of the suspected kidnapper. However, they were later released after documents surfaced suggesting that Sidra had voluntarily converted to Islam and married Murtaza of her own free will in Rahim Yar Khan District, located in South Punjab.

Masih has rejected the authenticity of those documents, which include an affidavit allegedly signed by his daughter claiming she is an adult and embraced Islam after viewing religious content on social media. He continues to plead for the safe return of his child.
