A 30-year-old Hindu man was allegedly murdered after his throat was slit with a sword by a Muslim youth in a crowded market area of Uttar Pradesh's Sant Kabir Nagar district late on Thursday night. Police suspect the attack was a premeditated act of revenge linked to an alleged eve-teasing incident that occurred five days earlier.

The victim, Anand Kumar, a resident of Kolki Chamarasan village who had recently returned from Chennai where he worked, was attacked at Babhani Chowk under the Bakhira police station limits, about 28 kilometres from the district headquarters. He suffered fatal neck injuries and died on the spot in front of numerous bystanders.

According to police and eyewitnesses, the dispute began during a wedding function several days earlier. Nasir Ali, an 18-year-old resident of nearby Kusumha village, allegedly molested or eve-teased Anand's niece. After learning about the incident, Anand confronted Nasir and reportedly slapped him. Investigators believe the public humiliation led to a grudge that culminated in the fatal attack.

On Thursday evening, Anand had gone to Babhani Chowk for some work when Nasir Ali allegedly arrived with four to five associates. Witnesses claimed that one of the accomplices handed Nasir a sword, after which he struck Anand in the neck, slitting his throat and causing fatal injuries. The accused reportedly fled immediately after the attack.

Anand's cousin Rohit, who was present at the scene, later informed police that some members of the group attempted to clean the weapon and destroy evidence. Preliminary investigations have confirmed the connection between the murder and the earlier dispute. Based on a complaint filed by the victim's father, Indresh, police have registered a case against four persons, including Nasir Ali, Nirhu of Kusumha village, and Jaigam of Jivdhara village.

The brutal killing sparked widespread anger among local residents. Protesters blocked roads at the Babhani intersection and reportedly set fire to Nasir Ali's barber shop and house. Some reports also stated that a roadside shop belonging to his associates was torched. As tensions escalated, hundreds of villagers, including women carrying sticks, gathered at the scene, leading to a volatile situation in the area.
