India, one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, has undergone a significant transformation since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office in May 2014. Under his leadership, India has seen several policy initiatives aimed at improving economic growth, infrastructure development, and social welfare.

One of the most significant changes under Modi's leadership is the emphasis on improving infrastructure. Several large-scale projects such as the construction of new highways, the modernization of ports and airports, and the expansion of the railway network have been undertaken.
These initiatives have helped boost economic activity and made it easier for businesses to operate in the country.
Another area of focus for the Modi government has been to improve the ease of doing business in India. The government has taken several steps to simplify regulatory procedures, reduce bureaucracy and encourage foreign investment. As a result, India has climbed the ranks in the World Bank's Ease of Doing Business Index from 142 in 2014 to 63 in 2019.
The government's flagship program, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, aimed at providing financial inclusion to the unbanked sections of society, has been a resounding success. Since its launch in 2014, over 430 million bank accounts have been opened, and over 300 million people have been brought under the ambit of the formal banking system. The program has also helped in channelizing various government benefits directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries, reducing leakages and corruption.
The government has also taken steps to improve access to healthcare and education in the country. The Ayushman Bharat scheme, launched in 2018, aims to provide free health insurance coverage to over 100 million vulnerable families in the country. Similarly, the government's Digital India initiative has helped in improving access to education by providing digital infrastructure and connectivity to schools and colleges across the country.
One of the most contentious changes under the Modi government has been the revocation of Article 370, which granted special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The move was aimed at integrating the region more closely with the rest of India and bringing peace and development to the area. However, the move has been met with opposition from some quarters, and the situation in the region remains tense.

While the Modi government's policy initiatives have been widely lauded, there have also been criticisms. Some argue that the government's emphasis on economic growth has come at the expense of social welfare and that the benefits of the government's programs have not reached the most vulnerable sections of society. There have also been concerns about the government's stance on freedom of expression and dissent, with critics alleging that there has been an erosion of democratic norms under the current government.
