Tension erupted in Balrampur district after three individuals, including two minors, were arrested for allegedly placing an Islamic religious flag over an already-installed Hanuman Dhwaja. The act, which was carried out near a Ganesh Puja pandal, quickly triggered outrage among locals once a video of the incident surfaced online.
According to police reports, a Hanuman Dhwaja had been installed atop a water tank in Virendra Nagar village, falling under the Trikunda police station jurisdiction. On September 4, a group of youths climbed the tank and replaced the saffron religious flag with an Islamic one. Not only did they commit the act, but they also filmed themselves doing it and later circulated the video on social media platforms, which amplified the controversy.
The video’s circulation led to widespread anger among residents of the area, who saw the act as an attempt to provoke communal disharmony. With tension rising, authorities swiftly intervened, removing the flag and restoring calm. To prevent further escalation, officials convened a peace meeting with community leaders and villagers. During the meeting, locals expressed strong resentment and demanded strict legal action against those involved.
Acting on the community’s concerns, police conducted an investigation and subsequently arrested three individuals, including two minors, in connection with the case. Officials have assured that appropriate action will be taken against the accused in accordance with the law, while also emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and communal harmony in the region.
