In Manipur's Thoubal district, a Muslim youth from the Meitei Pangal community was lynched by a mob following allegations of Quran desecration. The incident occurred in Yairipok on Friday night after the individual shared a video on social media in which he appeared to burn a copy of the Quran.
The deceased has been identified as Md Imran, son of the late Azaruddin, a resident of Yairipok Kekru Loubuk Leikai. In the video, Imran was seen holding the Quran and making provocative remarks about the Islamic scripture before setting it ablaze.
While igniting the holy book, Imran commented that the Quran recounts the creation of the world by the Almighty and claimed that its relevance had ended. He further stated that the Creator had instructed its destruction before proceeding to burn the scripture.
The video quickly went viral and sparked widespread anger in the local Muslim community. A large group located Imran and assaulted him. The attack occurred at approximately 6:20 PM.
Imran succumbed to the injuries sustained during the mob assault. Around 9 PM, police discovered his body near a riverbank at Yairipok Bamon Leikai Mathak after being alerted to the incident. Reports indicate that his body was found unclothed.
