A woman has been detained in Tehran, Iran, after being harassed by a man while not wearing a hijab.
Footage shared on X and viewed by Metro shows a motorcyclist ambushing the woman on a busy street during the day.
The victim has been identified as Roshanak Molaei Alishah, a 25-year-old Turkish woman from Tabriz in East Azerbaijan Province. In CCTV footage, she is seen confronting her attacker, shouting at him, and attempting to push him away from his bike.
The video also shows that Roshanak was not wearing the mandatory headscarf imposed by the Islamic Republic’s strict laws governing women and girls.
According to the Norway-based Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Roshanak has since been detained by Iranian security forces, and her current whereabouts remain unknown.
Roshanak was previously arrested and imprisoned for her involvement in the “Woman, Life, Freedom” protests sparked by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa (Jina) Amini while in police custody.
The Center for Human Rights in Iran reports that she was detained on November 3 after posting the video of her confrontation with the harasser. In the days following her arrest, the video was removed, and her social media account was suspended.
