Italian authorities announced on Friday that they have identified a primary suspect in the gruesome killing and beheading of a woman in Florence, a case that has shocked the local community. According to media reports, the victim was a 44-year-old German national believed to have been living without stable housing. The victim’s decapitated body was discovered on Wednesday at an abandoned property in Scandicci, a suburb on the outskirts of the historic Tuscan capital, after another homeless individual alerted authorities.

Police stated that investigators recovered multiple pieces of potential evidence from the crime scene, including a machete and a knife bearing traces of blood, both found near the body. These discoveries, officials said, played a crucial role in advancing the investigation. In an official statement, law enforcement confirmed that a man — already known to police for prior incidents — has emerged as a serious suspect. He is currently hospitalized and remains under police surveillance while inquiries continue.

Authorities further revealed that the suspect is a young man of North African origin who reportedly suffers from mental health issues. Preliminary findings suggest that he and the victim had been acquainted and were allegedly involved in a personal relationship. The two were said to have shared a makeshift shelter in the same abandoned area where the crime occurred, indicating they had been living in close proximity prior to the fatal incident. The investigation remains ongoing as forensic analysis and witness testimonies continue to be examined by officials in Tuscany, Italy.
