One person was injured after a U-Haul truck drove into a crowd during a protest in Los Angeles held in solidarity with anti-regime demonstrators in Iran, authorities confirmed. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody as police launched an investigation into the incident.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the incident took place at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Sunday along Veteran Avenue, near the Federal Building in the Westwood neighborhood. The area was filled with demonstrators participating in a march supporting the Iranian people and opposing the current regime in Iran.

“In or around 1530 hours, the driver of a U-Haul truck collided with individuals who were marching along Veteran Avenue in the vicinity of the Federal Building,” the LAPD said in an official statement. Police identified the driver as an adult male, who was detained at the scene pending further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Authorities confirmed that one person—also an adult male—was struck by the vehicle. However, police emphasized that no serious injuries were reported. A rescue ambulance responded promptly and treated the injured individual at the scene. No one was transported to a hospital for further medical care.

Local media outlet NBC4 Los Angeles reported that hundreds of protesters had gathered in Westwood for the demonstration. The march was part of ongoing global expressions of support for Iranian protesters opposing authoritarian rule.

Videos shared on social media appeared to capture the chaotic moments as the U-Haul truck moved rapidly through a dense crowd, with demonstrators screaming and attempting to get out of the vehicle’s path. In at least one video, an individual could be seen clinging to the side of the truck and pounding on a window as it continued to move forward.

Images and footage also showed banners attached to the truck. One banner, written in bold capital letters, read: “NO SHAH. NO REGIME. USA: DON’T REPEAT 1953. NO MULLAH,” referencing Iran’s political history and opposition to both monarchical and clerical rule. Another banner displayed text written in a foreign language.

The LAPD said the investigation remains ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
