Malaysia: Authorities are probing a Facebook post allegedly disrespecting Islam

KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 (Bernama) — Authorities are investigating a Facebook post suspected of insulting Islam, according to Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

He stated that a report was filed by an individual at the Jalan Tun Razak Police Station last night.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that the post contains elements that could provoke anger among Muslims in Malaysia and potentially disrupt public order.

The case is being investigated under Section 298A of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he said when contacted today.

Razarudin also noted that the post had been shared 42 times and received 270 comments, while the Facebook account remains active.
