Malaysia: Police identify man from viral Islam-insult video; now in mental health care

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 — Authorities have identified a man accused of making disparaging remarks and insults against Islam, which circulated on social media earlier today.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa stated that the police plan to record the suspect’s statement soon, as he is currently undergoing mental health treatment at a hospital.
He added that an investigation has been launched under Section 298A of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
“Earlier today, the police came across a viral video, 1 minute and 4 seconds in length, uploaded by the Facebook account holder Tan Chong Ren@Tan Speaker Corner,” he said.
