Two men from Michigan have been charged in connection with a thwarted ISIS-inspired terror plot that was allegedly meant to cause a massacre in a Detroit suburb on Halloween, according to an FBI affidavit.
The suspects, Mohmed Ali of Dearborn, Michigan, and Majed Mahmoud, reportedly conspired to carry out a mass shooting operation code-named “Pumpkin.” Court documents reveal they face charges for receiving, transferring, and attempting to transfer firearms, with the knowledge—or reasonable belief—that the weapons would be used for terrorist activities.
According to the FBI complaint, Ali had practiced shooting at a local gun range several times, sometimes accompanied by Mahmoud, a juvenile identified as “Person 1” (alias “Athari”), and an unnamed “Co-conspirator 4.”
The arrests came shortly after Ali’s lawyer, Amir Makled, told the Associated Press that his client was not involved in any terror plot and that he did not anticipate formal charges. Makled did not respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital on Monday.
Both men appeared in court the same day. William Swor, Mahmoud’s defense attorney, stated that he needed more time to review the extensive 73-page complaint before making any public statements, confirming only that both defendants are 20 years old.
Law enforcement intercepted conversations that revealed plans for the timing of the attack. In one exchange, the unnamed juvenile allegedly insisted the attack occur on Halloween rather than later, saying:
“So yeah, I talked to my brothers. We are going to do Pumpkin. I talked to [Co-conspirator 4] and [Co-conspirator 5]. They said it’s getting bad. So we got to do Pumpkin, yeah.”
