A 27-year-old migrant, Hamza Alotaibi, originally from Jordan, has been accused of sexually assaulting four women and girls over the course of just one month while travelling on the London Underground. Alotaibi, who is believed to have arrived in the United Kingdom by small boat, was residing in taxpayer-funded Home Office accommodation in London at the time of the alleged incidents.
According to reports presented at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, the assaults took place across different Tube lines between January and February of this year. The youngest victim was a 12-year-old girl, whom Alotaibi allegedly approached and molested on a District Line train travelling between St James’s Park and Acton Town stations on January 27.
Just two days later, on January 29, he is accused of groping a young woman at Paddington Station. The pattern of assaults continued into February. On February 4, Alotaibi allegedly targeted another woman on the Elizabeth Line near Whitechapel, and on February 13, he was said to have molested a fourth victim while travelling between Liverpool Street and Canary Wharf stations.
All the victims were travelling alone, highlighting growing safety concerns for female passengers on public transport. The court heard that Alotaibi’s alleged attacks appeared premeditated, as they followed a consistent pattern of approaching lone women and girls in confined spaces.
Following his arrest, Alotaibi was relocated from London to Hartlepool, County Durham, where he is now housed in similar government-provided accommodation. Authorities have not disclosed details about his immigration status or whether he remains in custody pending trial.
The case has sparked public outrage, raising renewed questions about the security vetting and monitoring of asylum seekers placed in taxpayer-funded housing. It also underscores persistent concerns about women’s safety on the London Underground, an issue that has been under scrutiny following multiple high-profile assaults in recent years.
Court proceedings are ongoing, with Alotaibi facing multiple charges of sexual assault.
