Late on Tuesday night and stretching into the early hours of Wednesday, armed terrorists who have repeatedly targeted communities in Kaduna State launched yet another violent assault—this time on Gidan Waya, a village in the Lere Local Government Area. According to local sources, the attackers stormed the settlement under the cover of darkness, killing four residents and abducting twelve others at gunpoint, plunging the community into fear and grief.
A community member who spoke to SaharaReporters confirmed the horrific sequence of events, an account later supported by a formal statement issued by the Akurmi Development Association (AKURDA). In the statement signed by its National President, Mr. Yakubu Maigamo, the association expressed shock and anguish over the fresh tragedy befalling one of its communities.
According to AKURDA, the armed men invaded Gidan Waya in Yarkasuwa on the night of November 11, 2025, ruthlessly taking the lives of four villagers and abducting twelve others, including men, women, and children. The victims who lost their lives were identified as 18-year-old Promise Korau; 19-year-old Hycent Timothy; 40-year-old Mato Shagori; and an elderly resident, Markus Ishaya.
The association also provided a detailed list of those who were kidnapped during the attack. Among them were: Habibu Yahaya, 42; Love Markus, 38; Mummy Markus, 49; Catherine Shitu, 40; Ibrahim Bagobari, 46; John Ibrahim, 15; Rev. Istifanus Dungu, 58; Christiana Dungu, 14; Prince Dungu, 13; Miss Dauda; Mrs. Rev. Danbala Inuwa, 38; along with another unnamed villager whose identity remains unconfirmed.
AKURDA condemned the assault in the strongest terms, describing it as a barbaric act carried out against innocent people who were asleep in their homes. The association urged security agencies to take swift and decisive action to protect the community, rescue the abducted residents, and ensure that those responsible for this heinous crime are apprehended and punished without delay.
