ABUJA, Nigeria (Christian Daily International–Morning Star News) – Fulani herdsmen killed a Christian and abducted four others in Plateau State, Nigeria, on Feb. 1, following a series of attacks between Jan. 27 and 31 that left more than 10 Christians dead, sources reported.
According to local resident Matthew Tegha, the assailants struck Shendai village in Namu District, Qua’an Pan County around 9 p.m. on Feb. 1.
“The four kidnapped victims were taken at gunpoint by their captors,” Tegha told Christian Daily International–Morning Star News. Other residents, local council officials, and a military spokesperson confirmed the incident.
During five days of assaults in Mangu County starting Jan. 27, Fulani herdsmen killed over 10 Christians in the villages of Lightlubang, Chisu, and Jwakkom, residents said.
“Dear God, please come to our aid. We need you here in Mangu, Plateau State. My heart bleeds,” Nanbam Denan wrote in a message to Christian Daily International–Morning Star News. “The attacks began on Monday, Jan. 27, and continued until Friday, Jan. 31.”
Caleb Joseph of Lightlubang reported that “Fulani bandits” killed three members of a family—a couple and their child—on Jan. 31.
“The husband, wife, and their child were attacked while they slept,” Joseph said. “Additionally, two other Christians, a married couple, were killed in a similar manner.”
Moses Bankat, another resident of Lightlubang, confirmed the Jan. 31 killings.
“Terrorists known to be Fulani herdsmen invaded Lightlubang village and killed five Christians—a man, his wife, and their child, along with another Christian couple,” Bankat said. “The victims were brutally slaughtered.”
On the same day in Chisu village, herdsmen killed an entire family, including a husband, wife, and their three children, Joseph added.
