In the early hours of Sunday, September 7, tragedy struck the quiet farming community of Wakeh, located in Agunu Ward, Kachia County of Southern Kaduna, Nigeria. At approximately 5:30 a.m., heavily armed men stormed the village, unleashing chaos and bloodshed that left at least nine Christians dead and eight others gravely injured.

According to survivors, the attackers—believed to be armed Fulani militants—descended upon the settlement from the nearby forest around Danin Maro. They arrived in large numbers, some riding motorcycles while others advanced on foot, quickly surrounding the community. Shouting “Allahu Akbar,” they opened fire on unsuspecting villagers, sending families into a panic as gunfire echoed across the farmland.

“They came from every direction, firing their weapons and setting houses on fire,” recounted Douglas Fogo, a survivor who spoke to International Christian Concern (ICC) in Kachia town. “Women and children ran into the bushes, while many of us had no choice but to flee for our lives. The attack lasted for more than two hours—we were completely helpless.”

When the shooting finally subsided, the devastation was overwhelming. The bodies of seven villagers were found scattered on farmland and along pathways leading out of the community. Two more victims, who had suffered severe injuries, later succumbed to their wounds. In addition to the loss of life, several homes were reduced to ashes, leaving survivors not only traumatized but also displaced.

Wakeh, a predominantly Christian Adara farming village, has endured repeated assaults by Fulani militants over the years. Residents say the most recent wave of violence has not only shattered their own community but also displaced families from surrounding villages, many of whom had sought refuge in Wakeh before the attack. Now, with lives lost, homes destroyed, and survivors uprooted, the community faces yet another cycle of mourning, fear, and uncertainty.
