ABUJA, Nigeria (Christian Daily International–Morning Star News) – Fulani herdsmen attacked a village in Plateau state, Nigeria, on the night of Dec. 22, killing 15 Christians, including a 1-year-old baby and a 13-year-old child, according to sources.

Clement Chup, president of the Aten Development Association (ADA), condemned the attack, describing it as the “gruesome killing of innocent, law-abiding Nigerians of Aten land.” The assault occurred in Dowchai, also known as Gidan Ado, located in Danwal village within the Ganawuri Chiefdom of Riyom County, a predominantly Christian community.

“We are deeply saddened by this senseless and avoidable murder of 15 individuals in a settlement situated just a short distance from a military checkpoint along the Vom-Ganawuri highway,” Chup stated in a press release. “This incident raises serious concerns about the dedication of security agencies to their duty of protecting the lives and property of Nigerians.”

The attack, which saw dozens of houses set on fire, took place during a government-enforced curfew from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., Chup noted.

“It is alarming how these perpetrators managed to carry out their plans without being detected by security personnel,” Chup said. “This is particularly troubling as such attacks and killings have become recurrent in the community.”
