ABUJA, Nigeria (Christian Daily International – Morning Star News) – The reign of terror by Boko Haram extremists continued last weekend as the group carried out two separate attacks in Borno state, Nigeria, leaving eight Christians dead and several homes destroyed, according to local sources.

On Saturday, August 30, militants stormed Ngoshe village in Gwoza County, where they brutally killed five Christian farmers who were working on their fields. Less than 24 hours later, on Sunday, August 31, the insurgents struck again, this time targeting Mussa village in Askira-Uba County. In this second attack, the extremists killed three Christians as they slept inside their homes, spreading fear and devastation among the community.

Confirming the incidents, Nanum Kenneth, spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, reported that both attacks were carried out by Boko Haram insurgents.

“Yes, there were two incidents of Boko Haram insurgents attacking communities in Gwoza and Askira-Uba Local Government Areas,” Kenneth said. “Reports from our officers showed that five persons were killed at Ngoshe, while three others lost their lives in Mussa.”

The Nigerian military also acknowledged the assaults. Reuben Kovangiya, spokesperson for the Nigerian Army in Borno State, assured the public that efforts were underway to prevent further bloodshed.

“Our personnel have been working assiduously to ensure that these attacks are curtailed, and we assure communities in Borno State that they will be protected by all means at our disposal,” he said.

Adding to the gravity of the situation, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South in Nigeria’s National Assembly, confirmed that in addition to the killings, Boko Haram insurgents set fire to dozens of homes during Sunday’s raid in Mussa.

“Yes, it’s true that Boko Haram terrorists have continued their attacks against communities in the southern part of Borno State,” Ndume stated, expressing deep concern over the persistent violence.

These fresh assaults underscore the continuing threat posed by Boko Haram, whose insurgency has plagued Nigeria’s northeast for over a decade, displacing millions, killing tens of thousands, and leaving Christian communities especially vulnerable to targeted attacks.
