A pro-life activist who was sucker-punched during an interview on a Harlem street is still reeling from the shocking attack, which she believes represents the broader pro-choice movement.
“The pro-abortion movement is rooted in violence, and abortion itself is violence, which fosters more violence,” Savannah Craven Antao, a 23-year-old reporter for the advocacy group Live Action, said in a Saturday interview with The Post.
The woman who struck Craven Antao during the on-camera interview about Planned Parenthood remains at large, and the NYPD has not provided any updates on potential leads in the case.
Craven Antao is dealing with a swollen left eye, two stitches under her eyebrow, significant pain in her nose, and a heavy psychological toll from the incident, which took place on Thursday.
“Mentally, I’m struggling. There’s a lot of stress, and I keep having flashbacks of what happened,” she explained. “Every time I look at my phone and see the video of the assault, it takes me right back to that moment. It’s terrifying.”
Craven Antao said the woman who attacked her had initially approached with the apparent intention of participating in her street interviews.
The woman, wearing a brown shirt, beige jacket, and Louis Vuitton bag, started by complimenting Craven Antao’s outfit and her cameraman husband’s "skin tone," but the conversation quickly turned contentious when they clashed over the topic of abortion.
“She just punched me in the face out of nowhere. It was totally unexpected,” Craven Antao told The Post.
This was the most violent encounter Craven Antao has faced in her work, although she has previously been spat on, shouted at, and even told she should be raped, get pregnant, and forced to give birth.
