Feras S. Hamdan, a 36-year-old resident of Westlake, Ohio, was formally arraigned via video conference on Friday on serious charges related to threats made against U.S. Representative Max Miller, a Republican from Ohio and one of the few Jewish members serving in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Hamdan has been charged with aggravated menacing and ethnic intimidation after allegedly threatening the life of Congressman Miller and his family. According to Julie Morron, operations manager for the Rocky River Police Department, bond for Hamdan was set at $500,000. Authorities confirmed that Hamdan, who is a licensed medical doctor in the state of Ohio, voluntarily surrendered to law enforcement late Thursday night, accompanied by legal counsel, at approximately 10 p.m.

The incident prompted swift action from federal and local agencies. The U.S. Capitol Police reported that their special agents were immediately dispatched to Ohio upon receiving the threat. They worked in coordination with local police departments to quickly identify, locate, and apprehend the suspect. Acting Capitol Police Chief Sean Gallagher remarked on the speed and efficiency of the response, stating, “In less than 24 hours, the U.S. Capitol Police received notification of a threat against a member of Congress, had boots on the ground, collaborated with the local police department, and the suspect in the case was arrested that same evening.”

Details of the incident are outlined in an official police report reviewed by JNS (Jewish News Syndicate). According to the report, Congressman Miller called 911 around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday to report an aggressive and threatening encounter with another driver. Miller described the assailant as having cut him off in traffic, made obscene gestures, waved a Palestinian flag, and issued violent threats. A recording of the call captures Miller saying, “I have somebody who cut me off, who is flipping me off, who is showing me a Palestinian flag and is yelling… threatening to kill me.” He was also able to provide the vehicle’s license plate number.

The report further states that the driver, identified as Hamdan, engaged in dangerous behavior on the road — tailgating the congressman, attempting to run him off the highway, and issuing explicit death threats. At one point, he allegedly threatened to kill both Miller and his daughter, while also directing an antisemitic slur at the congressman, calling him a “dirty Jew.”

Law enforcement confirmed that these threats were not isolated remarks but were “repeated” throughout the confrontation. The verbal assault, combined with the physical danger posed during the incident, led to Hamdan’s arrest under charges that include the element of ethnic hate.

Despite the severity of the allegations, records from the Ohio State Medical Board show that Dr. Feras S. Hamdan holds an active medical license (License No. 35.140087) and, up to this point, has had no formal disciplinary actions taken against him.

This case, combining elements of road rage, hate speech, and threats of political violence, has sparked widespread concern, particularly given the growing atmosphere of hostility faced by Jewish public officials in the United States. The investigation remains ongoing.
