According to local resident and youth leader Lonji Zuhumnan, more than 30 people were killed and several others injured after over 100 heavily armed gunmen launched a deadly assault on Jwak Maitumbi community on Sunday morning.

Speaking to DAILY POST, Zuhumnan said the attackers stormed the village around 7:30 a.m. while residents were attending church services or preparing for worship. The gunmen reportedly opened fire indiscriminately for several hours, forcing people to flee for safety. By the end of the attack, over 30 bodies had been recovered, while many others sustained injuries.

The assailants also carried out widespread destruction, setting fire to more than 50 houses, shops, churches, health centers, and food storage facilities. In addition, they reportedly vandalized farmlands and destroyed crops cultivated by residents.

Zuhumnan further claimed that repeated distress calls were made to security personnel in Mangu during the attack. However, he alleged that security forces arrived only after the attackers had completed the assault and escaped into nearby bushes and rocky terrain. The community is now grappling with significant loss of life, displacement, and extensive property damage.
